We hope to see you all there and again congratulations to Leslie! Spring Issue of Collage is out......Please review the latest news from ARLIS-OV :: Spring 2009 Collage Join the Ohio Valley Chapter of the Art Libraries Society (ARLIS/OV) SIGN UP TODAY Become a member and network with professionals in your field from Ohio, West Virginia, Kentucky and Western Pennsylvania. ARLIS/OV members represent Public, University, Academic Research, Museum and Special Libraries. Membership dues are currently $20.00 per year for professionals and $10.00 for graduate students. If a student is already a member of ARLIS/NA (Art Libraries Society of North America) then there is no charge for membership in the Ohio Valley chapter.
ARLIS/OV holds an annual meeting in the fall. This year’s meeting was held at the Ekstrom Library on the campus of the University of Louisville and the Speed Museum of Art, hosted by Vice Chair Meg Shaw, Art Librarian at the Lucille C. Little Arts Library, University of Kentucky and Gail Gilbert, Director of the Margaret M. Bridwell Art Library, University of Louisville. Coming up in April 2009 will be the ARLIS/NA Annual Conference in Indianapolis – an opportunity to see what others are doing on the national level at a venue that is fairly close for the members of Ohio Valley. ARLIS/OV offers travel awards for every meeting. In June, the Ohio Valley members are planning on taking a “fun” trip to the Toledo Museum of Art for a tour, demonstration, and a hands-on glass experience arranged by Anne Morris, Head Librarian.
By joining ARLIS/OV you will have the opportunity to meet with fellow art librarians, share information about your library as well as learn about others, hear how your colleagues manage their libraries, what challenges they face and what answers they may have that would benefit you.
For students who join ARLIS/OV, many possibilities present themselves which might not be available otherwise. You get the chance to network with the professionals associated with your future career; you will learn from those professionals through meetings and have the opportunity to do practicums with many of them. You will get the chance to hear about job openings and possibly be considered for a job because you have already formed those important professional relationships.
According to our professional code of ethics, “We strive for excellence in the profession by maintaining and enhancing our own knowledge and skills, by encouraging the professional development of co-workers, and by fostering the aspirations of potential members of the profession.” By becoming a member of the Ohio Valley Chapter of ARLIS you are acting upon and fulfilling your duties as expressed in the code. Please consider becoming a member this year.
